How We Can Help
FIRST CONSULTATION, ASSESSMENT & DIAGNOSIS
What happens in your initial appointment?
In your first visit as a New Patient, Mike will ask about your problem, general health and take a detailed medical history, so that he knows what has happened to you in the past. Then he will carry out a detailed examination of your spine and joints, including muscle, orthopaedic and neurological tests. He may find that x-rays are needed, depending on assessment of specific criteria that warrant an x-ray. At the end of your first session, Mike will analyse his findings to draw up a diagnosis and your personal treatment plan, in order to present this to you, as a written and pictorial report at your second visit, when you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. After you are fully informed about your condition and how he is going to treat you, you are then asked to give your agreement, so that treatment can start.
The Tools You Need
'Chiropractic Treatment' is really a package of care, comprising joint manipulation and a host of auxiliary methods, to treat the whole body as a single connected entity, rather than treating complaints in isolation. One part of the body will always affect the next part, and this forms the essence of holistic care. Mike uses a whole co-ordinated package of care comprising Chiropractic (hand adjustment of the spine and joints), Drop bench techniques, Activator, Trigger Point Therapy and SOT (Sacro-Occipital Therapy). Depending on the patient's condition, he may also use Medical Western Acupuncture, Ultrasound, KinesioTaping and Deep Tissue Massage, amongst others (click on 'treatment methods' to learn more). During the space of each treatment session, he can use any of these auxiliary methods in which he is trained, in a combination appropriate to your condition. Mike will periodically Re-Examine you, comparing measurements with your first examination, in order to assess your progress, and then report these findings back to you. This service is fundamental to ensuring our patients’ long-term health and wellness, and will provide you with evidence of the effects of the treatment.
We take the time to understand the root of your problem in order to provide the best and most effective treatment. Through our years of experience, we’ve found that Continued Care is a crucial part of the recovery process. At our Clinic we advocate a policy of progression through from acute symptomatic treatment, to joint correction, through to preventative healthcare, encouraging patients to think not only of short-term pain-relief, but to consider it in much the same way as the health benefits of going to your dentist regularly. After the initial stage of getting you out of pain, it is important to think about the benefits of a maintenance and a personal exercise programme, given to you by Mike, in order to stop the problem returning, and to keep your body working for you at its optimum level.
